Tonik are delighted to have completed designs at the idilic setting of the C15th Frensham Ponds Hotel just outside Farnham. Famous for being the test site of the very first seaplane and its inclusion in several Carry On Films as well the site of the 'Grimpen Mire' in the 1959 version of Hound of the Baskervilles with Peter Cushing starring as Holmes. The hotel bar was equally as infamous as a regular haunt of local Formula 1 World Champion Mike Hawthorn during in the 1950’s.
Since this time the hotel has undergone many alterations and additions and had become a proverbial rabbit warren of poorly designed and utilised spaces, unloved and badly used. Tonik were handed this jumble of ad hoc space with a brief to look at how we could rationalise and re-allocate to make a modern country hotel amid this beautiful National Trust Parkland.
Combining a number of smaller rooms into a larger bar area and creating a dedicated fine dining restaurant and new hotel entrance and in Phase two of works (due in 2016) a first floor outside terrace bar the hotel has been transformed and provides a very sympathetic environment to its outside surroundings.
